- A romantic genre film would normally involve a love story or love trianglesbetween 2 protagonists
- Could typically involve the story of a boy accidently meeting a girl
- There could be interference, such as some family members or other characters try to get in the way of the love couple
- Can be told from the point of view from both the lovers
- Emotional appeal
- Miscommunication such as the characters may hate each other, then love one another again
- The Notebook is an example of a romantic movie. This is where two characters love each other but other people may get in the way of this, such as their parents, because of the differenct classes which separates them apart.
- Usually the places of a romantic genre is a place of beautiful scenary (i.e. nice lakes, sea view, buzzing city).
- Light setting, not much dark/ gloom or shadows used like in a horror movie; this creates a more light-hearted feel, which is typical for a romantic genre.
- Teen romance may be seet in a high school whereas for an older romantic story a beach or city may be more appropriate, such as the beach location in 'Along Came Polly'.
- Love
- Jelousy
- Everyday props- makes it more realistic and so viewers can relate to the story being told
- The lightening is usually dim to create a more intimate and romantic atmosphere between the two characters, which also helps to draw the audience in more.
- Non-diegetic music can be used such as slow orchestral music or old hits to suit what we see and add to the intimacy of the two character's.
